Winemaker Note:
Ever since my first vintage in 2016, I have loved making barrel-fermented rosés. With barrel fermentation, the final wine has a little more structure, weight, and flavor, making it more serious than a standard tank-fermented rosé. I chose the name Soigné because I like to think we have taken a plain rosé and dressed it up in a barrel.
For the 2026 vintage, we used fruit from two vineyards: Lanae Ridge and Sawtooth. When the fruit was picked, we saignée’d one barrel worth of juice just after crushing from each vineyard. This does two main things: it gives the resulting red wine a richer color and flavor, and it allows us to make some rosé. Since the Grenache was picked for red wine and not necessarily for rosé, it has an alcohol level closer to a red wine than a typical rosé. This gives the wine more weight and a richer mouthfeel, which works well with barrel fermentation. After fermenting each barrel, the two Grenache rosés were blended into a larger neutral puncheon (large format barrel) and topped with a touch of Cinsault. Wine was aged 5 months in barrel and stirred periodically to help create even more complexity.
Tasting:
This is a round, fuller-bodied rosé that leans closer to a red wine in structure while still holding onto fresh fruit character. Watermelon and red fruit come through first, followed by subtle citrus and a touch of creaminess from the barrel. The texture is softer and more layered than a typical rosé, giving it added depth and a more serious, food-friendly profile.
Pairing:
This works well with dishes that sit between light and rich—grilled salmon, roasted chicken, or pork tenderloin. It’s also great with charcuterie, especially prosciutto and soft cheeses, or summer dishes like caprese, pasta salads, and anything with a little olive oil and herbs. If you want to lean into its texture, try it with creamy sauces or dishes with a bit of weight.
