Harvest and Production
Sourced from Block 70 at Sawtooth Vineyard, this 2023 Garnacha was harvested on October 4 and crafted with a mix of 25% whole cluster fermentation and a blend of wild and conventional yeast. The must spent 14 days on skins, and 50 gallons were saignée’d early in fermentation to build concentration.
After pressing, the wine was aged for 11 months in a mix of 2nd and 3rd fill French and American oak barrels, giving it a frame without overpowering the fruit. Bottled on September 7, 2024, with 120 cases produced.
Tasting Notes
A lifted, elegant expression of Garnacha. Aromas of rose petal, fresh red berries, and dried herbs lead into flavors of tart cherry, wild strawberry, and a touch of white pepper. Savory components of graphite, pencil lead, and a faint hint of cedar—from time in neutral oak.
The palate is light to medium-bodied, with fine tannins, brisk acidity, and a mineral-laced finish. Subtle spice and floral tones unfold with air, suggesting great potential for development in bottle.
This is a wine that feels more like the southern Rhône than the New World—quietly structured, food-friendly, and full of nuance rather than flash.
